Getting Started with CampLegal: Your First 48 Hours
Getting Started
Welcome to CampLegal!
Congratulations on joining the most powerful immigration case management platform built specifically for immigration law firms. This guide will walk you through everything you need to do in your first 48 hours to get your firm fully set up and running smoothly.
By the end of this guide, you will have:
•Your firm profile configured
•Your team members added and assigned roles
•Your first case created
•Your calendar, email, and billing integrations connected
•Your client portal ready for clients to use
Step 1: Log Into Your Firm Portal (5 minutes)
1.Navigate to lawyer.camplegal.com in your web browser.
2.Enter the email address and temporary password provided in your welcome email.
3.You will be prompted to create a new password. Choose something secure — CampLegal supports two-factor authentication (2FA), and we strongly recommend enabling it under Settings > Security.
4.Once logged in, you'll land on your Dashboard — this is your command center.
Pro Tip: Bookmark lawyer.camplegal.com for quick access. CampLegal works best on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
Step 2: Configure Your Firm Profile (10 minutes)
Your firm profile appears on invoices, letters, and client-facing documents, so it's important to set this up first.
1.Click the Settings gear icon in the left sidebar.
2.Select Firm Profile.
3.Fill in the following:
•Firm Name — Your official law firm name
•Address — Street, City, State, ZIP
•Phone Number — Main office line
•Email — Primary firm email
•Logo — Upload your firm logo (recommended size: 300x100px, PNG or JPG)
•Website — Your firm's website URL
4.Click Save.
Important: Your firm name and logo will appear on all invoices and trustvoices sent to clients. Double-check spelling and formatting.
Step 3: Add Your Team Members & Assign Roles (10 minutes)
Every person at your firm who needs access to CampLegal should be added as a user. CampLegal uses two types of roles — User Roles (what they can access in the system) and Billing Roles (what they can do with billing and invoices). Each team member gets one of each.

Step 4: Create Your First Case (15 minutes)
Cases are the heart of CampLegal. Each case represents one immigration matter for one client.
1.Click the + Quick Action button on your Dashboard (or go to Cases in the left sidebar).
2.Select New Case.
3.Fill in the required fields:
•Client Name — Select an existing contact or create a new one
•Case Type — Choose the immigration form type (e.g., I-130, I-485, I-751, H-1B, N-400)
•Case Status — Typically starts as "Open" or "In Progress"

•Assigned Paralegal — Who handles day-to-day work

Step 5: Connect Your Integrations (15 minutes)
CampLegal integrates with the tools your firm already uses. We recommend connecting these on Day 1:
Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar
1.Go to Settings > Integrations > Calendar.
2.Click Connect Google Calendar or Connect Outlook Calendar.
3.Sign in with your Google or Microsoft account and grant permissions.
4.Your calendar events will now sync both ways — appointments created in CampLegal appear in your calendar, and vice versa.
Email (Microsoft 365 / Outlook)
1.Go to Settings > Integrations > Email.
2.Click Connect Microsoft 365.
3.Sign in and authorize CampLegal to read and send emails.
4.Emails related to cases will automatically appear in the Communication tab of each case.
LawPay (Payment Processing)
1.Go to Settings > Integrations > LawPay.
2.Click Connect LawPay.
3.Enter your LawPay credentials.
4.Once connected, clients can pay invoices online directly from the Client Portal, and payments will be recorded automatically in CampLegal.
QuickBooks (Accounting)
1.Go to Settings > Integrations > QuickBooks.
2.Click Connect QuickBooks Online.
3.Authorize the connection.
4.Invoices and payments from CampLegal will sync to your QuickBooks account for seamless bookkeeping.
Step 6: Set Up Your Client Portal (10 minutes)
The CampLegal ClientApp is your clients' window into their case. They can:
•View their case status and milestones
•Upload documents securely
•Complete intake questionnaires
•Sign documents electronically via text message
•Make payments online
To set up the Client Portal:
1.Go to Settings > Client Portal.
2.Customize your portal branding (logo, colors, welcome message).
3.Enable or disable features (document upload, messaging, payments).
4.When you create a case and add a client's email, they'll automatically receive an invitation to access the portal.
Pro Tip: The Client Portal dramatically reduces back-and-forth emails and phone calls. Encourage every client to use it from Day 1 of their case.
Step 7: Explore Your Dashboard (5 minutes)
Now that everything is set up, take a moment to explore your Dashboard. Here's what you'll see:
•Financial Summary — Revenue, outstanding invoices, trust balances at a glance
•Tasks — Your upcoming to-do items and deadlines
•Calendar — Today's appointments and hearings
•Needs Attention — Cases and items that require immediate action
•Quick Actions — One-click shortcuts to create cases, contacts, invoices, and more
What's Next?
Now that your firm is set up, here are your recommended next steps:
1.Import your existing cases — If you're migrating from another system (Docketwise, INSZoom, or spreadsheets), contact our support team and we'll help you migrate your data.
2.Set up Trackings — CampLegal's automated reminder system sends clients reminders about upcoming deadlines, document requests, and appointments. Go to Track in the left sidebar to configure.
3.Explore BI Reporting — Go to BI Reporting to see real-time analytics on your firm's performance, case volumes, billing, and more.
4.Watch the Full Training Video — We have a comprehensive training video that walks through every feature. Find it under Getting Started in our Knowledge Base.
